Pistons GT and Mavs Gaming Fight to the End

by Aaron Fox

To cap off the team’s week five, Pistons GT squared off with Mavs Gaming on June 26th. Pistons GT took game one but couldn’t complete the sweep, resulting in another Detroit split. The team has now split five-out-of-six opening matchups to begin the season and sits 3rd in the Western Conference standings with a 7-5 record.

The first half included back-and-forth action, as the teams exchanged winning quarters and Pistons GT headed into halftime with a two-point lead. Mavs Gaming erased the deficit almost immediately, flipping it into their own six-point advantage by the time the fourth quarter began.

In the final 90 seconds Radiant hit a trio of three-point attempts, including the game-winner as time expired. Detroit’s point guard finished with 37 points and 9 assists. 10 of Radiant’s 13 made field goals were from beyond the arc (10-for-16). Ramo starred as well, posting his ninth straight double-double of the season with 18 points, 16 rebounds, and 2 blocks.

The only thing missing from the first contest was overtime, and game two had fans covered. The table was set for more late-game heroics but a last-second midrange attempt from Radiant failed to find the bottom of the net, and we were headed for an extra three minutes.

A Pexile steal and Charger fastbreak bucket pulled Pistons GT within one possession with just 17 seconds remaining. A missed free throw gave Detroit hope for a split second before an unfortunate turnover sealed their fate. Dallas successfully avoided the sweep behind 32 points, 10 assists, and 2 steals from Dimez.

Milo finished with a career-high 16 points, along with 5 rebounds, 4 made three-pointers, 1 block, and 1 steal. Radiant (23pts-12asts) and Ramo (19pts-13rebs) each posted double-doubles and Pistons GT now enters a league-wide bye week at 7-5.

Detroit will be back for week six action against Bucks Gaming (July 7 @ 9 and 10 p.m.) and Wizards District Gaming (July 8 @ 7:45 and 8:45 p.m.).
