Pistons GT Regular Season Kicks Off Tonight

by Aaron Fox

After an exciting TIPOFF tournament where the team saw positive results, including a 4-0 start, Pistons GT is set to kick off their regular season tonight. The schedule includes a pair of rematches against fellow group seven member Nets Gaming Crew.

We met NetsGC during the TIPOFF, defeating Brooklyn both times by scores of 73-72 and 88-59. Rookie point guard Greenlight took advantage of the opposing defense, posting 31.5 points and 7.5 assists per contest.

This time around, Pistons GT will field a different lineup with former starting shooting guard, Killey, departing from the team. In 6 games during tournament play Killey averaged 15.7 points and 3.8 assists, proving he’s more than talented enough to play in the NBA 2K League. Recent fourth-round selection Milo was added to the active roster earlier this week.

We won’t be the only team utilizing a new lineup. Legit played the final two games of the TIPOFF for NetsGC, replacing Dante in the starting five. Potential lineups:

Pistons GT: (PG) Greenlight, (SG) Idris, (SF) Pexile, (PF) Charger, (C) Ramo

NetsGC: (PG) Choc, (SG) Faiz, (SF) SlayIsland, (PF) Legit, (C) Shotz

Key Matchup: Faiz vs. Greenlight

A shooting guard versus point guard key matchup might seem odd, but stick with me. NetsGC used plenty of off-ball action to free up their talented guard Faiz. A lot of this action was aimed at isolating Faiz with a lesser defensive archetype in the point guard, Greenlight. Brooklyn will likely continue to use this strategy, possibly making the rookie lead-guard Detroit’s most important defender on Thursday night.

Faiz averaged 21.3 points and 2.3 assists per game on 51.6% shooting from three-point range during tournament play. Against Pistons GT, Faiz posted 12.5 points and 1 assist per contest on 40% shooting from beyond the arc.

Catch all of the action live on the NBA 2K League’s Twitch and YouTube, with coverage beginning at 7 p.m. tonight. Pistons GT is slated to begin game one at 7 p.m. and game two at 8 p.m.
