Pistons GT Sweeps Opening Round of TIPOFF

by Aaron Fox

Pistons GT began their season with a 4-0 start during group play in the NBA 2K League’s TIPOFF powered by AT&T. Detroit’s second-round selection, Dylan “Greenlight” Sanderson, had quite the rookie debut, stringing together point totals of 22, 41, 25, and 22, including a pair of double-doubles in the process.

Detroit found themselves trailing for the majority of game one against NetsGC, eventually forcing overtime, where the team narrowly escaped with a one-point victory. Despite a slow start, four out of five Pistons starters reached double-digit scoring, including a pair of double-doubles from their frontcourt duo in Charger (11pts-11rebs) and Ramo (18pts-11rebs).

The overtime win’s momentum carried right into our second matchup with Brooklyn. Finally comfortable, Greenlight posted 41 points, 8 assists, and 2 steals with just a single turnover in the team’s 88-59 game two win.

Kings Guard Gaming was up next, and coming off consecutive wins against Bucks Gaming, held a 2-0 record of their own. Led by an intimidating defense and MVP point guard, Sacramento threatened the lead late, but Detroit refused to budge. Greenlight recorded his first career double-double, finishing with 25 points and 11 assists.

The final game of the night was decided by a third quarter run that gave Pistons GT a commanding 15-point lead heading into the fourth frame. Each starter recorded 8+ points, and Detroit made over twice the amount of three-pointers (15) as their opposition did (7). A 4-0 record not only meant advancing to the next round, but also landed the team a number one overall seed.
