Pistons GT TIPOFF Preview

by Aaron Fox

The NBA 2K League’s fourth season officially kicked off last night with the TIPOFF, powered by AT&T. Pistons GT players, staff, and fans had to wait an extra day, but Detroit is slated to debut tonight, with NetsGC and Kings Guard Gaming on tap for our first two matchups.

Projected Lineups:

Pistons GT: (PG) Greenlight, (SG) Killey, (SF) Pexile, (PF) Charger, (C) Ramo

NetsGC: (PG) Choc, (SG) Faiz, (SF) SlayIsland, (PF) Legit, (C) Shotz

NetsGC TIPOFF Schedule: vs. Pistons GT (6 p.m. & 7 p.m.), vs. Bucks Gaming (8 p.m. & 9 p.m.)

Nets Gaming Crew represents our first opponent of the season. Rebuilt around Choc and Shotz, Detroit’s defense is facing off with what is expected to be one of the league’s top pick-and-roll duos. In his NBA 2K League debut, Pistons’ starting lockdown defender Pexile, will be tasked with a difficult job in slowing down Brooklyn’s new point guard-center combination.

Key Matchup: Ramo vs. DatBoyShotz

Ramo and DatBoyShotz have been in the NBA 2K League since its inaugural draft in 2018. Three years later both players are now household names at the center position, and tonight they match up with $160,000 on the line. For Detroit, containing Shotz on both ends of the court will be high on the priority list. Luckily, we have a gold-medalist winning big man on our side.

Projected Lineups:

Pistons GT: (PG) Greenlight, (SG) Killey, (SF) Pexile, (PF) Charger, (C) Ramo

Kings Guard Gaming: (PG) MamaImDatMan, (SG) Seem, (SF) Crush, (PF) Yusuf, (C) Majestic

Kings Guard Gaming TIPOFF Schedule: vs. Bucks Gaming (7 p.m. & 8 p.m.), vs. Pistons GT (8 p.m. and 9 p.m.)

In their second  matchup of the night Pistons GT will move on to Kings Guard Gaming at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. est. Now led by MVP MamaImDatMan, Sacramento added one of the league’s best all-time scorers to a core that was a top defensive unit during season three.

Key Matchup: Greenlight vs. MamaImDatMan

Greenlight, who will have had a few starts under his belt at this point, doesn’t only face the talented Kings Guard defense. Greenlight will have to keep pace with Sacramento’s backcourt, which has plenty of firepower between MamaImDatMan and Seem. Mama recorded 33.1 points per game last season, good for third best league-wide. Seem posted 13 points per game on 60% shooting from deep. For Detroit to see success against a stacked Kings roster, a lot of responsibility falls on the rookie point guard’s shoulders.

The TIPOFF, powered by AT&T, will be live on the NBA 2K League’s Twitch at 6 p.m. est. For more information on the tournament, click here.
