Pistons GT vs. Kings Guard Gaming Recap

by Aaron Fox

Pistons GT claimed their first sweep of the regular season, defeating Kings Guard Gaming in back-to-back matchups on Friday night. Detroit’s pair of wins sent the team from 7th to 4th in the Western Conference standings.

Game one marked a few firsts for Pistons GT. Rookie Milo made his NBA 2K League debut starting at power forward. Radiant played his first game as starting point guard this year. And maybe most importantly, game one was the first time Pistons GT allowed 65 or fewer points all regular season. The team went on to allow 65 or less in consecutive contests (65, 61).

Radiant finished with 35 points, 9 assists, and 2 steals, his third 30+ point performance in just five starts. Charger and Pexile chipped in 13 points each, with Pexile not missing a single shot from the field (3-for-3 on 3PTA).

Entering halftime with just a 5 point advantage in game two, Pistons GT saw their lead increase to 11 multiple times during the third quarter. With just six minutes remaining, Detroit held a double-digit lead and their new-look defense had limited 2019 MVP MamaImDatMan to 8 points and 3 assists (5 turnovers) on 2-for-7 shooting.

Sacramento made their run late in the final frame, erasing the deficit behind three straight buckets from Mama. In the end it was a case of ‘too little, too late’ and Pistons GT managed to hold on, allowing a regular season-low 61 points.

The box score might not jump off the screen but Milo (6pts-6rebs-2asts-2stls) had his fingerprints all over Detroit’s success in game two. Timely defensive stops including 2 steals sparked Pistons GT runs. His two offensive rebounds in the final 90 seconds gave the team an extra two possessions in a one-possession contest.

Ramo registered his 7th double-double of the season (6th straight) with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal. After falling just one assist shy in game one, Radiant recorded his first of the season, finishing with 23 points and 14 assists.

Pistons GT (5-3) will be back in action next week with two matchups on tap: Pacers Gaming (11-3) on Thursday (7:30 and 8:30 p.m. est.) and Mavs Gaming (5-5) on Friday (7:00 and 8:00 p.m. est.).
